Our story

The Grace Factory began with one mother’s act of kindness — and it’s grown into a movement you can be part of.

The Heart of What We Do

It all began in July 2012 when our founder, Amy, welcomed her first child, a beautiful baby girl named Erin Grace. While on maternity leave, surrounded by tiny clothes and baby toiletries she no longer needed, Amy felt a tug on her heart. With no friends or family expecting at the time, she wondered who might truly need these essentials.

So, she loaded her car and headed to the local Spar behind her home. There, she gently approached car guards, asking if any of them had babies at home. One by one, she began handing out bundles of baby items from her boot. These small acts of kindness sparked something much bigger.

Inspired by her daughter, Amy founded The Grace Factory, a name born from the love and generosity Erin Grace had awakened in her. When her second daughter arrived prematurely in 2015, Amy’s mission expanded to include maternity packs for moms of preemie babies, too.

Since then, The Grace Factory has delivered hope and dignity to over 23,000 new mothers and babies and supported more than 150 children’s organisations across South Africa, providing them with essentials like clothing, nappies, and toiletries.

About us

The Grace Factory is a registered non-profit organisation (123-700NPO) supporting mothers and babies in need across South Africa. Our mission is to restore a sense of dignity, care, and support to women during one of the most vulnerable and life-changing times.

One of the key ways we do this is by providing thoughtfully curated maternity packs to moms who cannot afford the essentials. Each pack contains items to help both mother and baby in those crucial early days, including a babygrow, vest, beanie, blanket, socks, nappies, wipes, baby soap, bum cream, aqueous cream, a face cloth, and sanitary and breast pads.

We work closely with public hospitals, clinics, social workers, and community organisations that share our vision of long-term empowerment for women and children.

In addition, we redistribute donated baby goods to homes that care for abandoned or orphaned babies, ensuring nothing goes to waste and every item finds a family who truly needs it.

Where to find us

Our wonderful teams in Johannesburg, Vaal Triangle, and Hillcrest would love to hear from you. Whether you’d like to donate, volunteer, or simply find out more, they’re here to help.
